Around the time I reached my early thirties, I began to travel—a journey in search of these diverse cultures and traditions. It was through traveling more and seeing with my own eyes that I became aware of the immense role women play in preserving, maintaining, and spreading these customs. My main concern, however, was the heavy burden that has been, and still is, placed on women. It is a burden of preserving and sustaining the family, of nurturing various arts, and of life itself. Their art is not only in cooking their ancient dishes but also in the craftsmanship built with hands worn and calloused, which captivated me. And I say this not just because this is my homeland.
However, this concern did not end at the borders of my country. In the limited travels I have had beyond my homeland, I realized that wherever women are, life and art flow. And even in times of war, drought, and famine, they have acted as a dam, protecting their families with their lives.
I truly came to understand that this delicate being, free from gender prejudice, has played a pivotal role in continuing life and keeping the flame of hope alive through every darkness and ugliness in the world.
In the end, I decided that, through my limited travels, with my pen and the photos I take, I would showcase this tireless effort and beauty as a tribute to all my kind in every corner of the world.
